Company: Verivox
Project:
Verivox App
Year: 2024-2025
Description: Accessibility and information architecture optimization and visual redesign of the Verivox App.
Responsibilities: Design Lead, Visual Design, Interaction Design, Prototyping

Situation

In October 2022, I joined the Verivox app team. At that time, the Verivox app had already been on the market for several years, but unlike other Verivox products, it wasn’t integrated into the product development process. While the app offered the same basic functionality as the Verivox website, it lacked some key features. Visually, the app didn’t match the look and feel of the Verivox website. Additionally, there were some accessibility issues that needed to be addressed, and there were plans to optimize the app’s information architecture.

Task

My first tasks included identifying accessibility issues in the app and optimizing its information architecture. I also developed proposals for a new visual design for the app.

Action

Information Architecture

Based on the performance data from the various pages of the app, we prioritized which features we wanted to retain and which we wanted to leave out of the new „light“ version of the app. Based on this, I created several variations of the new app’s structure. Originally, the plan wasn’t for a complete redesign, but rather for optimizations. Since many pages were embedded as web views, it wasn’t possible to change everything at once. After completing a version for a new structure, I created a short prototype to discuss my ideas with my colleagues. In addition to the optimizations, I also worked on integrating important website functions into the app.

Visual Design

Based on the Verivox style guide and design system, I tested various approaches for the new app design. The design system was optimized for the Verivox website, but using its components didn’t feel like good app design. I tried to use components of the existing design system, but also developed designs that went beyond it and even used a different design language. Another focus was developing a design that complies with accessibility guidelines.

Result

Visual Design
The design uses a dominant Verivox orange paired with white and gray for strong brand recognition and clarity, clean sans-serif typography with bold headings for emphasis, and consistent line-style icons to support quick visual scanning.

Layout & Structure
The app features intuitive navigation with a bottom tab bar, a prominent top search bar, and an overlay menu for account-related actions. Content is organized in cards and lists for easy access to comparisons, while clean forms and clear calls to action guide users through tasks efficiently.

Accessibility
The design ensures clarity through clear labeling and logical grouping, maintains consistency in icons, typography and buttons, and supports accessibility with high contrast and well-sized tap targets.
